Stylish
and timeless, the wonderful
album Diana Ross originally issued
in
1976 has been released as part of Diana Ross: Expanded Edition,
a two-CD set that includes the newly-
remastered album...
HUGELY-SUCCESSFUL, SINGER DIANA ROSS is very much a part of music history.
In 1976 she surprised world audiences with a whole new Diana Ross with a selection
of familiar songs alongside totally new sounds.
The beautiful and mega-talented singer has a timeless appeal; perfectly demonstrated
in 1976 by her then first full-length solo studio album for more than two years.
Diana Ross was released shortly after her record-breaking second feature film
Mahogany. The film's soundtrack included the Number One hit, Theme
From Mahogany (Do You Know Where You're Going To?); a gentle, exquisite
song that Diana sings with emotion and a powerful ease.
Diana Ross… her rich,
uplifting voice
soothes and stimulates;
pure enjoyment Maggie Woods
Her
rich, uplifting voice soothes and stimulates; pure enjoyment as you listen to
her on each track, from the quirky ballad I Thought It Took A Little Time
(But Today I Fell In Love) to an unexpected twist: Love Hangover.
It was Diana's first ever disco song, another Number One smash hit and is Diana's
most listened-to song.
Diana Ross: Expanded Edition is a two-CD set that features the newly
remastered original album, single-only mixes, non-LP singles, the super-rare
promotional single Coming Home and new alternate mixes of almost the
entire album. Coming Home is quite magnificent and its heart-warming
lyrics are lovely to listen to.
Three performances from the sessions that have never been heard before also
stand out: Harmony, a delightful cover of the Elton John classic; Go
Where Your Mind Is; and another quirky number Le Lo Li, produced
by Jeffrey Bowen with Sly Stone.
Of note is the pretty After You; Diana's fine cover of Smile;
a fabulous version of the emotive To Love Again; and the thought-provoking
We're Always Saying Goodbye with its profound words. Kiss Me Now
sees a more upbeat Diana and Together is a gem.
Rounding up the collection is an excerpt from an interview with Diana Ross that
has not been heard for 36 years in which she recalls the high spots of her successful
and happy career and looks forward to the challenges of the future. Diana talks
of her children, forming the trio that was to be called The Supremes, her involvement
with MoTown and learning her craft over many years.
She also talks about the album, Diana Ross, her love of all kinds of
music and her favourite song from the album After You. Super-star,
Super-mum and most of all the charming and natural Diana Ross.
• Diana Ross: Expanded Edition is released
