Successful
actress and singer/song-
writer Jane Badler showcases her
versatility as she makes her welcome
UK album debut a cornucopia of well-
chosen tracks sprinkled with her own
brand of sensuality and given the title Opus...
SLITHERING SENSUOUSLY ONTO THE MUSIC SCENE, bringing with her a cheering
warmth to the uncertain English climate of early autumn, is a familiar face
to Sci-Fi fans in the shape of Jane Badler, Diana The Lizard Queen in hit cult-series
V.
Shedding her original music skin to reveal an expansion of her styles further
from her work in acclaimed Melbourne indie outfit Sir, Jane treats listeners
to an infusion of dark 80s, cabaret-style, synth-pop, soul and jazz elements
with stories of revenge, betrayal, redemption and power
a remarkable offering that earned her a nomination for Best Female Artist at
the AGE Awards.
Opus
Janes sensuous,
silky voice purrs through
her wonderful tracks
with all the drama
of the talented artiste
she is...
Jane
played the role of Diana in both the original series and the seminal re-imagined
2011 version of V (written by the talented, well-known author Gregg
Hurwitz) but she is also an accomplished and established songstress who has
worked with some of the industry greats over the years, including producers
Mark Saunders (Cyndi Lauper's The Cure) and Ivor Guest (Grace Jones'
Hurricane).
A former beauty queen, Jane's early years were spent in New York, competing
in the Miss America Pageant and later studying drama; soon embarking on a
long and successful career as a professional actress of stage and screen in
the United States. After a number of years in America, she fetched up in Melbourne
and became a regular in Aussie soap Neighbours
a show that has given the music world Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan.
While in Australia with Melbourne band Sir, Jane released her debut CD The
Devil Has My Double, which was followed three years later in 2011 with
Tears Again. She has worked with the internationally-acclaimed producer
Paul Grabowsky, resulting in a record reflecting her long and varied career
that has seen her appear in Hollywood B films and television soaps throughout
the Seventies and Eighties and pays homage to the melodrama of the era.
Along
with the really great, dramatic track Diamond Crimson Blood, which
sounds as if it could easily become a theme tune for a Bond film, and the
catchy Return To Passion, is the toe-tapping Fame, with a similar
feel to Roxy Music, the lilting and compulsive Addicted and the two
tracks from her AA single CD, Losing You and Volcano Boy.
Jane's sensuous, silky voice purrs through her wonderful tracks with all the
drama of the talented artiste she is. As she breathes life into her words,
she identifies strongly with her work. "I had just finished two albums as
the muse for a writer when I decided to write my own album," Jane speaks of
her experience. "My record company at the time suggested I try a covers album.
Being The Rebel I Am started the long foolhardy journey of writing
an album."
Opus is produced and mixed by Jeff Bova, the Grammy-winning producer
who has worked with Michael Jackson, Celine Dion, Luther Vandross, Eric Clapton,
Robert Palmer, Billy Joel, The Bee Gees, Cher, Cyndi Lauper, etc, and demands
to be noticed.
Jane Badler's debut UK album Opus
is released on Me Jane Records via JTV Digital on 1 September 2014. Opus
follows AA side single Losing You and Volcano Boy, which was
released on 7 July 2014.
