Jon Scott:
Some R Beautiful [album]
Summer
[single]
A
few months ago we
reviewed the fabulous
R n
B singer/songwriter
Jon Scotts sunny and
vibrant single, Summer.
Now hes
bouncing back
onto our players with his
album Some R Beautiful
a wonderful collection
of songs that will put the
heat back into the
dark winter nights...
THE MAN WITH A SENSE OF HUMOUR IN HIS VOICE and a penchant for sun, sand,
sea and salsa is winning ears and hearts with his blend of great African rhythms
infused with jazz, pop, rock, soul and ballads.
Born with music in his bones, Jon was a child star back home in his native Nigeria
where he was befriended by the legendary Fela Kuti and has appeared
on stage a number of times, including in versions of Jesus Christ, Superstar
and the acclaimed South African musical Ipi Tombi.
Some R Beautiful is a beautiful album in itself with a great tracklist
that not only includes the outstanding Summer but also another great
song, Suzi Walker, that is tipped to be Jon's next single release.
Carrying his culture in his blood, his ancestry burns in his songs with a gentle
enthusiasm that stirs the heart especially noticeable among the tracks
of Some R Beautiful.
There is a second album due out in late Spring 2008. Jon put Some R Beautiful
together with the mega-talented Gordon Hulbert as his co-producer Gordon's
credits include Chaka Khan and the incomparable Suzi Qatro.
Couldn't be more beautiful, Jon.
Jon Scott's CD album release Some R Beautiful
is out now from Caravan Music Promotions.

SUNSHINY DAYS ARE ALMOST
OVER not that 2007 will be remembered as having many of them. So welcome
Summer, Jon Scott's single and enjoy them all over again!
OH, GOSH! What a voice what a single. Summer is full of African
sunshiny days and dancing for joy. Difficult to believe it comes from the vocal
chords of a lawyer.
A star in his native Nigeria as a teenager, Jon Scott became friends with one
of his neighbours the legendary Fela Kuti, whose regular night spot was
the Kalakuta Republic Club, where Jon would hang out and watch the Afro-Beat
king perform.
Playing his friend his own latest songs, Jon was given so much positive feedback
from the artiste he so admired that he gained in confidence and his song-writing
flourished.
Fela Kuti has clearly been an enormous influence on Jon and to mark the tenth
anniversary of the legend's death, the soul-pop singer released Summer
as a commemorative single on 6 August.
Kuti was not only a great in-fluence on Jon's music. Jon became very politically
and socially aware of the conflicts and ethnic issues that were problematic
in his unsettled country. His parents also began housing refugees.
Music remained Jon's passion, but when he was in his early 20s his parents expressed
a wish for him to have a good education and Jon moved to the UK to pursue a
successful career in Law.
Jon has now returned to his first passion. The publicity machine says that "Summer
has all the right ingredients to become a dancefloor filler, fusing sexy Café
del Mar-esque Balearic beats with Scott's sweet soul vocal."
It smacks of tantalising strains of exotic melodies, frivolity, fun and laughter.
Summer evokes the art of Fela Kuti; unfettered, untamed and with a personal
touch that is all Jon Scott's own.
Produced by Gordon Hulbert whose credits include many of Chaka Khan's
and Angie Stone's biggest hits the track is taken from Scott's forthcoming
album Some R Beautiful and it is already receiving a great deal of airplay
and is playlisted on MTV Dance.
