Steve Lawler Viva London [album]
Steve Lawler: Viva London“You instantly know
  you are going to like
  Steve Lawler. There is
  something about him...”

WHICH IS JUST AS WELL, AS HIS DOUBLE CD Viva London is celebrating Britain's vibrant capital with a moonburst of dark funk, sexy sleaze and sinister fun — all, we are told, through an expert blend of the world's best producers.

Justifiably proud of his monthly residence at London's The End —
from which this compilation draws inspiration — Steve says: "VIVA Harlem Nights has been running for nearly six years at The End and it was time to lay down a permanent celebration of the night and a permanent celebration of London."

As you progress through the night and through the CD, the heat is turned up as the beat goes on. This is only the beginning — Steve is presenting his VIVA album series, each representing one of his residencies around the world and he has started with London.

Steve has used the discs to recreate a night at the club. "At the night itself I play for five hours, so re-creating the club atmosphere within the two CDs — which is only a two and a half hour timeframe — was really tough, but I have definitely captured the vibe. The hardest call was what I should leave off," he adds. "There's some very exciting music out there and I decided to put a mix together of tracks that I have been heavily supporting this year."

The publicity machine says: "Alongside two brand-new exclusive cuts of his own, Steve has drawn on the likes of London favourites David K, Gel Abril, Samim, Dubfire, Simon Baker, Bushwacka! and Martin Eyerer, creating an album that will undoubtedly stand the test of time — and wake up the world with an aural explosion direct from the hedonistic heart of our capital."

Next on the agenda is a series of albums that will include the other cities that play host to the VIVA residencies. The next volume comes from Steve's very successful slot in Toronto. But for now you may enjoy the storming soundscape that is Lawler's London!

There is something strangely compelling about this double CD that appears to sink deeper into the realms of city nightlife and the desire to hang out and just to be. Interesting instrumentation and fascinating sounds pull you in. Savour your Tequila Sunrise, listen to Steve Lawler and watch the sun come up!

Steve Lawler's double CD Viva London was released on 5 November (2007) from Renaissance.
