Tony StringfellowNaked Therapy [album]
The
oddly-titled Naked
Therapy
from Tony
Stringfellow contains a
collection of 19 poems
dramatically and
powerfully recited by
Tony...
OF COURSE, IT ALL DEPENDS WHETHER YOU LIKE POETRY. And
I do. I found Tony's words quite creative and evocative if sometimes
a little disconcerting. Billed as "thought-provoking poetry",
it is certainly that.
The CD includes a unique collaboration between Tony and musician Rob Cairns
with the song A Soldiers Dream, which is a powerful reflection on war.
It is a revealing anti-war poem about the war in the desert and is particularly
harsh in its brutal realities of the conflict. It is not always easy to listen
to as Tony lays out everyday occasions against the stark and horrifying reality
of war.
In another poem he enters the mind of a clown: "tomorrow there would have
been a clown but he decided to become a secret agent". And who could blame
him when everybody loves the clown but in real life he is lonely.
Tony bares his thoughts and highlights themes of concern to us all. Talking
of sex and love: "in the nakedness of honesty, the song is the same".
And in another poem a nagging woman berates her hung-over man.
There are lighter poems, too one about an accident-prone man who "lost
his wallet down the loo".
So, if you want something to ponder over or just enjoy poetry, take a look at
Tony Stringfellow's offering. You might be glad you did!
