In
the dark and brutal Earth of the
future, thirty years after the events
of the first film, a new blade runner is
ordered to kill a special child, now
an adult, who should never have been
born, and to destroy all traces of its
family; but he begins to believe the
truth is much closer to home in
the spectacular sci-fi thriller Blade
Runner 2049...
IN 2049 IN A WORLD RECOVERING FROM CATASTROPHIC war and peopled by humans
and Replicants bio-engineered humanoids originally designed by
Tyrrell Corporation and identified by a number on their eyelids
a young blade runner, Officer K (Ryan Gosling: La La Land; Drive) of
the Los Angeles Police Department discovers something buried next to a petrified
tree in the Californian wastelands that merits further investigation.
The dig team sent by his superior, Lieutenant Joshi (Robin Wright: Wonder
Woman), discovers the remains of a woman and further tests reveal something
that was thought impossible, sending K whose job it is to terminate rogue
Replicants on a mission to track down and kill someone whose identity
he is yet to discover and that will lead him to former blade runner Rick Deckard
(Harrison Ford: The Star Wars films; Witness), who has been missing
for thirty years.
Blade
Runner 2049
is spectacular;
a riveting dark and
violent vision of the
future...
A
series of violent rebellions had led to a ban on the manufacture of Replicants
and hence Tyrrell Corporation's bankruptcy; but some of the old models have
survived and are still being hunted down to be terminated by blade runners.
After the collapse of eco systems in the mid-2020s, industrialist Niander Wallace
(Oscar-winner Jared Leto: Best Supporting Actor, Dallas Buyers Club,
2013) pioneered synthetic farming preventing widespread famine
and managed to salvage the ruins of Tyrell Corporation to create efficient and
obedient Replicants under his own name, the Wallace Corporation.
K returns home to a beautiful woman known as Joi (Ana de Armas: War Dogs),
a hologram who speaks softly, fetches his meals, answers his questions and is
very affectionate towards him. The perfect partner! He seems to care about her
very much and she gives him the name Joe.
K seems to have memories of a little wooden horse that some other children tried
to take from him and he hid. When his mission leads him from the Tyrell archives
to an orphanage run by Mister Cotton (Lennie James: Television's The Walking
Dead) his memories are further stirred and he may have discovered something
about himself.
In his bid to discover if his memories are real, K consults Dr Ana Stelline
(Carla Juri: Brimstone), who creates Replicant memories. Ana is locked
in a cage but is given images that might make her happy, including the illusion
of a forest with insects she may study.
With his boss now out to stop him, K finally tracks down Rick Deckard to a casino
in Las Vegas, but both men are in the utmost danger…
