MARRIED BUT RECENTLY SEPARATED COUPLE successful lawyer Paul (Golden Globe
Winner Hugh Grant: Bridget Jones' Diary; Love, Actually)
and top estate agent Meryl Morgan (two-time Emmy Award Winner Sarah Jessica
Parker: Sex and the City) witness a murder near their home in New York.
When they are placed in the Witness Protection Programme together they end up
in a small town in the wilds of Wyoming in the heart of cowboy country in the
delightful romantic comedy Did You Hear About The Morgans?.
Now given new identities as the Fosters, Meryl and Paul move into the remote
home of US Marshal Clay Wheeler (Sam Elliott: The Contender; Ghostrider)
and his wife Emma (Academy Award Winner Mary Steenburgen, Best Supporting Actress
Melvin And Howard, 1980), who introduce the Morgans to an alternative
lifestyle that includes dealing with wild bears, learning to ride and shoot
and making the most of the limited local facilities — back to basics and
a far cry from their lavish New York lifestyle.
The fact that Paul has slept with someone else has driven a wedge between him
and Meryl. But will she forgive him and can he convince her to take him back?
As they share experiences, become accepted by the small community and wait for
an ultimate placing separately under the Programme, will they find the love
they once had — even when Meryl reveals a secret to Paul?
And are the Morgans really as safe as they have begun to feel? A reckless telephone
call may just bring the dangers of New York closer to their doorstep. Will these
diehard city dwellers survive the weather, the bears, too much fresh air and
forced time together — and will they make it out alive? You'll have fun
working this one out!
Taking advantage of many potential comedy moments, Did You Hear About The
Morgans? is a very funny film with excellent entertainment value and a touch
of drama thrown in for good measure. A slow start builds up to an impressive
romantic comedy with a twist. Hugh Grant is his wonderful loveable and gifted
self, Sarah Jessica Parker is in fine form, Mary Steenburgen develops her warm
character fantastically and it is lovely to see the wonderful Sam Elliot in
this sympathetic role. A superb cast and a great film.
