A
schoolteacher goes out on a limb
in an attempt to avenge the death of his
wife in the tense psychological thriller Dolans Cadillac an act that almost
costs him his own life as he takes on a
cold-blooded and violent crime lord...
PROMISED POLICE PROTECTION by the FBI after his beloved wife Elizabeth (Emmanuelle
Vaugier) witnesses an execution carried out by human traffickers in the Nevada
desert and agrees to testify, schoolteacher Robinson (Wes Bentley: American
Beauty) has his idyllic life shattered by her murder.
The man responsible, notorious crime lord Jimmy Dolan (Christian Slater: Interview
With A Vampire; True Romance) who is driven around in a bullet-proof,
customised Cadillac SUV and lives a wealthy life amidst the glitz and glamour
of Las Vegas believes himself to be untouchable. Anyone who witnesses
Dolan's criminal activities ends up dead.
But Dolan has not reckoned on the softly-spoken Robinson who, haunted by the
death of his wife and his unborn child, is not going to take the loss of the
love of his life lying down. While fighting a breakdown and sinking into depression
and despair, Robinson is taken to the brink of insanity. He goes to extraordinary
lengths as he plans, in an ingenious and terrifying way, to trap the man who
destroyed his life. Placing his own life on the line, he takes on Dolan with
the dogged determination of a man who has nothing left to lose.
Those around Robinson, and even Dolan himself, would never believe that this
regular guy would be able to find either the strength or the courage to face
down the master criminal. But as the film develops, you begin to realise that,
while he struggles with his fears and a gut-wrenching grief, he might just manage
to perfect a way to send his wife's killer on his way to hell. And it is the
very thing that protects Dolan that could trap him.
Described by Director Jeff Beesley as an "existentialist revenge movie" where
a man loses the most precious thing in his life, Dolan's Cadillac leaves
you wondering what lengths you would go to under the same circumstances
even when death waits in every shadow. Utterly believable with a wonderful cast
led by the fabulous Christian Slater, this taut thriller with a touch of the
supernatural is well paced and has an unforgettable, terrifying climax.
A modern take on the Edgar Allen Poe classic The Cask Of Amontillado,
the movie features Poe's dramatic imagery in Dolan's apartment. Although the
film is a little gruesome in places and contains acts of violence, Dolan's
Cadillac is a convincing and gripping revenge tale that keeps you hooked.
