IMAGINE A MUSICAL CORNUCOPIA of classic pop melodies from the glittering
Sixties, the era that inspired generations to come. There you have it; an exceptional,
infectious and uplifting music trip back to an extraordinary time with the renowned
musician Jakob Dylan as he pays homage to the Californian folk-rock scene from
Laurel Canyon in the magnificently evocative Echo In The Canyon.
Among those who called Laurel Canyon home were Frank Zappa, Brian Wilson, Carole
King, and Peter Tork of the Monkees; alongside movie cowboy star Tom Mix and
horror movie star Boris Karloff. The Bohemians, the music-makers and the film
stars made Laurel Canyon a special place to be.

The
distinctive California sound emits a power that is world-changing. "Beautiful
music gets inside you," says Roger McGuinn, showing his home movie footage of
The Byrds' first trip to London as Jakob looks at music from the years 1965
to 1967.
Jakob plays an important part as he performs alongside Beck, Cat Power, Norah
Jones, Regina Spektor and Fiona Apple and his interviews include such stars
from the era as Eric Clapton, Ringo Starr, Neil Young, Graham Nash and Jackson
Browne.
Most poignant, of course, is the last-ever interview with the late, great, American
singer-songwriter Tom Petty, who sadly passed away in October, 2017. I like
to think of Tom and George (Harrison) making music in the sky...
Laurel Canyon was a place where people came to make music that, says Jakob,
is classic and timeless. The film Model Shop made by Columbian Pictures
in 1968 was an inspiration to those who lived in the decade in which it was
great to be young; to enjoy colourful, innovative fashion and wonderfully creative
music.
Take an intimate look at the roots of the musical scene in Los Angeles' Laurel
Canyon, featuring the work of such iconic groups as The Byrds, Beach Boys, The
Mamas & The Papas and Canadian band Buffalo Springfield. Drop in on casual conversations
that are being heard for the first time ever.
Michelle Philips talks of her life in The Mamas & The Papas and Ringo tells
of a visit to the home of the Monkees' Mickey Dolenz. While Tom Petty describes
California as a "legendary paradise", other talented musicians, including Stephen
Stills (Buffalo Springfield) and Neil Young, share their memories.
Full of warm and insightful anecdotes, Echo In The Canyon showcases electrifying
performances from legendary bands and their contemporaries while brilliantly
presenting an outstanding snapshot of a pivotal moment in time when bands co-operated
to produce these amazing contributions to musical history.
Director Andrew Slater follows renowned musician Jakob Dylan as they celebrate
the explosion of popular music that came out of Laurel Canyon in the mid-1960s
on a carefully-crafted, witty and revealing journey of discovery that evokes
a time and a place heady with the promise of musical originality.
Echo In The Canyon is a tribute to the sounds of the Sixties in America,
a phenomenon that still resonates today with artists such as Beck, Cat Power
and Regina Spektor. Folk went electric and the California sound was created
with an unforgettable landmark that scorched a page in the history of American
Popular music. Laurel Canyon became a "hotbed of creativity".
Described as a "gloriously sunny music documentary" and a "star-studded hit
of musical nostalgia", Echo In The Canyon sees an influential and remarkable
line-up of music talent celebrating the impact of the Sixties' Californian folk-rock
scene on music. No way would music fans want to miss this.
