At
last a brilliantly funny, ever-so-
slightly-black comedy that
really does make you laugh as loud as it promises! Ghost
Town is an outstanding film about ghosts with unfinished business
and a zany dentist who would rather they finished their business
elsewhere... GHOST TOWN PROVES THAT YOU DON'T HAVE TO RELY ON toilet
humour to produce a genuine comedy that satisfies even the stiffest upper lip
what a refreshing change. Billed as the supernatural romantic comedy
of the year, Ghost Town makes its debut on DVD and Blu-ray and will appeal
to everybody particularly dentists and those who see dead people!
Full marks to the actors who make up the hard-working cast, who never
take themselves too seriously especially stars Greg Kinnear (Little
Miss Sunshine, Baby Mama) as the difficult, unfaithful Frank Herlihy, who
has a too-close-for-comfort encounter with a falling air conditioning unit and
a fatal collision with a bus; British comedy genius Ricky Gervais (The Office)
as social reject Bertram Pincus, whose people skills are non-existent until a
near-death experience gives him a window onto another world; and the fascinating
Téa Leoni (Spanglish, Fun With Dick And Jane) as Herlihy's widow, Gwen,
who becomes engaged to Richard (Billy Campbell) to the vexation of her
dead husband.
When a routine surgery goes wrong, Pincus is pronounced
dead, only to be miraculously revived several minutes later. But the ill-mannered
New York City dentist has a surprise in store. He finds that he is being followed
by a growing number of dead people who have noticed that Pincus can see
and hear them and want him to help them with their unfinished business.
At
first Pincus believes he is hallucinating, but the persistent Herlihy soon convinces
him otherwise and he quickly realises that word is spreading in the spirit community
and he has become the go-to-guy for every troubled phantom in the city. Bumptious
and selfish, Herlihy wants to stop his wife from marrying a "real scumbag who
is after her money" persuading Pincus to woo Gwen away from the new man
in her life.
But the romantically inexperienced Pincus becomes smitten
with Gwen and his clumsy attempts to interest her lead from one comic incident
to another. Will Gwen fall for Pincus? Is Richard really as bad as Herlihy paints
him? Who is a ghost and who isn't and will Pincus relent and help the spirits
find eternal rest?
Benefiting from sharp performances and beautifully
dry Gervais execution, Ghost Town won't fail to make viewers laugh out
loud. With a host of special features, including commentary from renowned director
David Koepp and the Making of Ghost Town, this is one DVD must-have for
every Ricky Gervais fan or, for that matter, any fan of Greg Kinnear or
high quality comedy.
Deadpan hilarity and quirky charm thrive in Ghost
Town, giving Emmy award winner and seven-times Bafta winner Ricky Gervais
the chance to prove his worth in Hollywood in this transatlantic feel-good love
story about a man, a woman and a ghost.
