Journey
2: The Mysterious Island
When
a teenaged boy breaks into a
satellite facility to retrieve a message
from his missing grandfather, he finds
himself on a dangerous adventure
to a strange and beautiful island that,
according to the locals, cannot possibly
exist in Journey 2: The Mysterious
Island...
STRAIGHT OUT OF THE PAGES OF CLASSIC ADVENTURES, Journey 2: The Mysterious
Island is the culmination of an inspiration taken from master storytellers
Jules Verne, Robert Louis Stephenson and Jonathan Swift, cleverly woven into
a modern tale of danger and discovery.
Young Sean Anderson (Josh Hutcherson, reprising his role from the first film,
Journey To The Center Of The Earth; and The Hunger Games) receives
a coded message believed to be from his grandfather, Alexander Anderson (Michael
Caine: The Dark Knight; Inception), who has not been heard from
for two years.
Unable to get a clear message from his own radio equipment, he breaks into a
satellite facility to retrieve the message and get the co-ordinates of the remote
location. He is chased and caught by the Police, leaving his stepfather Hank
(Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson: Fast And Furious 5; The Scorpion King)
to bail him out.
Hank received a commendation when he was in the navy for his skill at breaking
codes and although Sean resents his stepfather for moving him and his mother
away from his home town and his schoolfriends, he reluctantly accepts his offer
of help.
It seems that Alexander is on an island in the Pacific and the clues to its
whereabouts and the necessary three parts of a map lie in three books: The
Mysterious Island, Treasure Island and Gulliver's Travels.
Sean wants to try to find the island and rescue his grandfather, but Hank tells
him he is grounded.
However, eventually Hank relents and says he will go with Sean even though he
is doubtful of the validity of the message. They make their way to the nearest
port to try and find someone to take them to the island, but it at first proves
difficult as the moment they mention the co-ordinates they are met with denials
of the island's existence.
They are overheard in their negotiations by Gabato (Luis Guzmán: Carlito's
Way; Boogie Nights), who owns an anything-but-luxury travel excursion
company and offers to take Hank and Sean to the island = for a price.
Gabato's strong-willed daughter Kallani (Vanessa Hudgens: High School Musical
franchise; Sucker Punch) tells Hank that the co-ordinates he has given
her father are the most dangerous part of the ocean. As they approach the area
there is an electrical storm that results in them crashing into the island,
leaving their only means of escape scattered in pieces across the sand.
Making their way inland through the jungle they experience scary noises in dark
caves, giant creatures, a mountain of gold, miniature elephants, large and beautiful
butterflies and bees and a once-beautiful ruined city that hides a secret.
Alexander and Hank don't hit it off, but as clues unravel Sean believes he has
found an answer to their prayers in the pages of Jules Verne's book, but that
is not the only problem that awaits them. They are getting that sinking feeling…
Facing unforeseen dangers and difficulties, Sean and Hank race against time
to rescue Alexander and find a way to escape with Gabato and Kallani before
the island disappears beneath the waves until the next century.
