Sometimes
life deals us a tragedy that
makes us realise what we are missing;
and sometimes we dont know what
we truly want until we are faced with
losing it, as a young man and a young
woman are about to find out in Life As
We Know It when they are, literally, left
holding the baby...
AFTER A DISASTROUS FIRST DATE with hunky Eric Messer (Josh Duhamel: Transformers;
When In Rome), who has just moved to Atlanta, attractive singleton Holly
Berenson (Katherine Heigl: 27 Dresses; Knocked Up) hopes she will never
set eyes on him again in the funny and heart-warming romantic comedy, Life
As We Know It.
But their best friends Alison (Christina Hendricks: Mad Men) and Peter
Novak (Hayes Macarthur), who have tried to bring them together, have other ideas.
A number of uncomfortable close encounters follow and after the birth of their
daughter Sophie (played by Alexis, Brynn and Brooke Clagett), Alison and Peter
ask Holly and Messer to be Sophie's Godparents.
With a mutual dislike of each other, Holly does her best to steer clear of Messer.
However, fate is about to take a hand. Tragedy strikes and Alison and Peter
are killed in a car accident, leaving the orphaned Sophie in the care of the
CPS until the family lawyer can sort out a permanent arrangement for her.
Holly and Messer are shocked to find out that their friends have left a will
naming them as joint guardians to Sophie and they are to live together in the
family house. From all-out war to mutual co-operation learning to care
for a one-year-old is hard enough without having to learn to live with each
other.
Holly runs her successful gourmet food store Fraiche and Messer works in broadcasting
as a Technical Director. With the help of babysitter Amy (Britt Flatmo) and
under the watchful eye of Janine (Sarah Burns) from Social Services, Holly and
Messer try to put aside their mutual dislike of each other and fit their lives
around Sophie. Desperate to make things as normal as possible for their Goddaughter,
they also go to extraordinary lengths not to miss one moment of baby's 'landmark'
events and magic moments.
Navigating through a perpetual minefield with a continual round of challenges
involving some hilarious and very messy nappy changes, dealing with exhaustion,
finding food Sophie will eat and juggling work commitments with looking after
a baby all lead to some very frustrating and funny scenes. Nothing could ever
have prepared this mismatched couple for parenthood!
So with Messer bringing in girlfriends to stay over and Holly seeing paediatrician
Sam (Josh Lucas: Glory Road; A Beautiful Mind), how are the two new 'parents'
going to sort out the best way forward? A growing attraction to each other and
their love for Sophie could bring them closer together, but both are ambitious
and have other distractions, on top of still trying to deal with the grief of
losing their best friends. How will they cope? Will they ever be able to live
together amicably and find the perfect way to care for Sophie?
Laugh at Holly and Messer's antics as they don't seem to have a clue about what
it means to be parents but they do have a whole lot of love for Sophie.
