Magnificent!
At
Fraser's Ridge in the North Carolina wilderness, Claire practises medicine for
the good of her family and the community, using the skills she learned as a
doctor living in the future. She has also written a medical book under the pseudonym
of Dr Rawlings.
Happily
married and living at the home they have created, the family is content to put
down roots, having made a pact with the English redcoats for a parcel of land.
But the threat of revolution hangs over them and soon their tranquil idyll will
be shattered.
Determined to protect those they love, Claire and Jamie prepare for their daughter
Brianna's wedding to Roger MacKenzie (Richard Rankin). Brianna joined her parents
from the future after discovering her true identity and was followed through
the stone circle at Craigh na Dun to the past by Roger, her true love.
As Brianna and Roger attempt to find a place in a strange world, the shadow
cast over their relationship by Stephen Bonnet (a wonderfully disturbed portrayal
from Edward Speleers) when he raped Brianna, prior to the birth of baby Jem
(Andrew Adair and Matthew Adair), seems lessened by Bonnet's apparent death.
However for the family, which now includes Jamie's nephew Ian (the remarkable
John Bell) who has returned from his life with the Mohawks, there is further
danger, turmoil and impending hostilities to come in the New World.
At the wedding celebrations, Governor Tryon (Tim Downie) reminds Jamie of his
obligation to track down Murtagh Fitzgibbons Fraser (Duncan Lacroix), Jamie's
much-loved Godfather who is now leading a militia of rebel Regulators.
Tyron wants Murtagh and his men hung as a warning to all and Jamie, who has
reservations about his agreement, reluctantly sets off with the fanatical Lt
Hamilton Knox (Michael D Xavier) and his militia, with danger and tragedy to
come.
As the threat from the Regulators becomes stronger, Governor Tyron has his reasons
for wanting to suppress them and avert the mounting political crisis. When Roger
goes to Brownsville with his men, his actions will rebound on the family.
Jamie tries to balance his divided loyalties as the Regulators take the rebellion
to the point of no return. Facing his fears, he suffers the consequences of
Alamance Creek. When he receives a life-threatening bite from a poisonous snake,
Claire tries desperately to save him, using the limited resources available
in the 18th Century.
Brianna supports Roger and his demons, becoming enmeshed with the life or death
fight for her family. She and Roger share a difficult decision, unsure whether
to return to the future or stay.
Hazards lurk for the Frasers and Claire has to endure the unthinkable as she
is captured by an enemy intent on seeking a terrible revenge, but will the Frasers
get through the trauma to find peace at last in the place they have chosen to
call home?
