There
are challenging times for the
Frasers, now at home in pre-revolution
America, as the must-see and much-
anticipated Season Six of the historical-
come-time travel epic Outlander comes
to home entertainment, but danger and
tragedy lie ahead...
HAVING BEEN WHISKED AWAY TO 18th Century Scotland from her job as a nurse
in the 1940s, Claire (Catriona Balfe) and her husband Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan)
travelled to North Carolina and face a time of political upheaval. They have
made their home at Fraser's Ridge on land granted to them by The Crown.
Living in the past with the man she loves, Claire is attempting to deal with
the traumatic violent assault she suffered at the hands of Lionel Brown (Ned
Dennehy) and his men. She is working on a new treatment to use in her healing
work and in doing so discovers a dangerous way to cope with her nightmares.
Outlander
is magnificent,
with beautiful scenery
and period sets,
and utterly compulsive
viewing.
A word of warning:
You cannot
stop watching!
Claire
is only too aware of the coming revolution and there is already some conflict
among neighbours at Fraser's Ridge. She is concerned that her daughter Brianna
"Bree" Randall Fraser Mackenzie (Sophie Skelton) and her husband Roger Wakefield
Mackenzie (Richard Rankin) may really belong in the 20th Century.
Jamie and Claire face the challenges of Colonial America and Jamie is troubled
by the arrival of Tom Christie (Mark Lewis Jones) with his children Malva (Jessica
Reynolds) and Allan (Alexander Vlahos) and a group of Protestants. Tom, who
is resentful of Jamie, was in Ardsmuir Prison with him in 1753.
When asked by Major Douglas Mackenzie (Graham McTavish) to become an Indian
Agent Jamie agrees to prevent Lionel's brother Richard (Chris Larkin) having
the job. Denying the Cherokees their request to have guns causes an argument
with young Ian Murray (John Bell). Ian sees a man who stirs up painful memories
of his life with the Mohawk.
Roger has a shock at the funeral of Grannie Wilson (Anne Kidd) and Fergus (Cesar
Domboy) and Marsali Fraser (Lauren Lyle) have a fourth child, Henri-Christian,
sadly born with a birth defect.
The rising tensions in the colonies give Claire and Jamie further cause for
concern and Jamie re-evaluates his views after meeting fellow Scot and Indian
Agent Alexander Cameron (Michael Geary).
A dysentery epidemic reaches Fraser's Ridge and Claire becomes seriously ill.
Tragedy strikes with serious consequences for the Frasers. Still unable to come
to terms with being violated and ignoring the outcome of her desperation, Claire
falls foul of Richard Brown, who is searching for rebels and a murderer using
his dubious Committee of Safety.
The Sixth Season sees the Frasers finding out just how far they will go to protect
their home and their family. As outsiders from across the water, the Outlanders
may still have to prove themselves.
