Gu (Award-winning actor Wang Xuegi: Bodyguards and Assassins) successfully
plots to overthrow the powerful and influential Zhao clan that has held its
lofty position in China for generations.
As the Grand Councillor, Zhao Dun (Guoan Bao) is in high favour and his son,
the brave General Zhao Shuo (Wenzhuo Zhao) is married to a princess, the Lady
Zhuangi (Bingbing Fan), who is heavily pregnant.

When
Tu'an Gu strikes, he fulfils his plans of a military coup and orders the slaughter
of the entire Zhao clan. The princess gives birth after seeing her husband slain
and to save the child the court physician Cheng Ying (Award-winning actor Ge
You: To Live), hides the child in his medical chest.
General Han Jue (Xiaoming Huang) is sent to fetch the child but is persuaded
by Cheng Ying to allow him to take and hide the child. With the princess slain,
the physician takes the child to live with him, his wife (Hai Qing) and their
own newborn son.
But tragedy is to strike; and newborn boys are in terrible danger from the vengeful
Tu'an Gu. Paying a dreadful price for his loyalty to the Zhao clan, Cheng Ying
saves the boy at the cost of the lives of his own child and his wife.
Bringing the boy up as his beloved son under the watchful eye of Tu'an Gu, Cheng
Ying waits for the day he can use the boy as a weapon against the man responsible
for the loss of his family. As Tu'an Gu gradually begins to truly care for the
boy, Cheng Ying will suffer further and live to regret what he has done.
Sacrifice is an impressive, highly watchable and emotional period drama
that benefits from terrific battle scenes and well-paced tension. It is a story
of bitter jealousy and a horrific sacrifice that leads to danger and confusion
for both the physician and his adopted son.
