With
acclaimed Director Gabriele
Muccino and two-time Academy Award
nominee actor Will Smith at the helm, Seven Pounds is a clever venture into
the uncomfortable world of suicide
and guilt
where a grieving man makes the
ultimate sacrifice in his search for
redemption...
AN INSPIRING AND EMOTIVE JOURNEY of a search to find peace by changing the
lives of seven unfortunate strangers, Seven Pounds explores an existence
of tragedy and guilt as Will Smith (Hancock; Hitch; The Pursuit Of Happyness)
expertly portrays a man grieving for his partner Sarah (Robinne Lee) and who
is determined to make his life matter.
Sharing a heart-breaking secret only with his best friend Dan Morris (Barry
Pepper: The Green Mile; Saving Private Ryan), the man who calls himself
Ben Thomas (Will Smith) uses his identification as a representative of the Internal
Revenue Service to research the lives and the characters of the chosen few to
find out who truly deserves to benefit from his help.
Those in line for a surprise include: Blind pianist Ezra Turner (Woody Harrelson:
No Country For Old Men; The People vs Larry Flint), a vegetarian who
works in a call centre for Cheyenne Meats and who needs treatment that could
restore his sight; care home manager Stewart Goodman (Tim Kelleher), whose bone
marrow treatment was not successful but who may be neglecting one of the elderly
residents, Inez (Fiona Hale); and Emily Posa (Rosario Dawson), who has congenital
heart failure, is unable to work her letter-press business or look after her
Great Dane Duke properly and desperately needs a new heart. One of the most
touching scenes is where an ailing Emily asks for a story and Ben tells her
one about "a fire-breathing dragon with really bad attitude".
There is also: Connie Tepos (Elpidia Carrillo), whose abusive partner nearly
killed her the last time she tried to leave him and she is too afraid to try
again even though she has two children who may be at risk; Nicholas,
a young boy with cancer; and ice hockey coach George Ristuccia (Bill Smitrovich),
who needed an organ transplant.
What is Ben's true identity and what is his connection to Apogee Aeronautics
and to Holly (Judyann Elder), who works for The Department of Family Services?
What is the secret that he keeps hidden even from his much-loved brother
(Michael Ealy: Barbershop 2) and the pledge he has asked Dan to
make?
And will he give up his mission when he falls in love with one of the beneficiaries
of his overwhelming generosity or will it make him all the more determined to
fulfil the promise that has already cost him his beautiful beach house?
