A MEMORABLE AND NEAR-PERFECT MOVIE, SHERLOCK HOLMES is one of the funniest yet exciting adventure stories to hit the silver screen. With the wonderful, versatile Academy Award nominee Robert Downey Jr (Iron Man; Chaplin; Tropic Thunder) as Holmes and Academy Award nominee Jude Law (The Talented Mr Ripley; The Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus) turning in a splendid performance as Dr John Watson, Sherlock Holmes opens at the gallop with a race through a beautifully-evocative Victorian London and the pace never lets up for one second.

Holmes, Dr Watson and Inspector Lestrade (Eddie Marsan) race to save a young woman (Amanda Grace Johnson) from the clutches of the evil Lord Blackwood (Mark Strong: Body Of Lies; RocknRolla; Syriana), who is using her in a sacrificial rite during his practice of the dark arts. Five innocent young women have already been murdered and with Blackwood's arrest should come the end of his reign of fear.

But the most difficult challenge for Holmes is just beginning. Evil walks the streets of London and Lord Blackwood appears to have fulfilled his promise that death has no power over him. His diabolical plan continues with an attempt to raise a force that will alter the course of the world.

With London in the grip of terror and Scotland Yard unable to provide an answer, Holmes and Watson face a world of black magic, secret societies and new technologies, where logic proves to be just as effective in the fight against crime as any other weapon. A brilliantly harsh, bleak and very different take on the underworld of Victorian London, in Sherlock Holmes Robert Downey Jr and Guy Ritchie take one step beyond to create a masterful, very human and unique character while building on the legendary reputation of the brilliant, quick-witted and keenly-observant super-sleuth.

Aided by Dr Watson, master-of-disguise Holmes is unequalled in his pursuit of criminals. Employing his unique, and at times unconventional, methods and his unfailing powers of deduction and observation, Holmes discovers the truth in this electrifying and highly-visual film.

Dr Watson introduces his fiancé Mary Horstan (Kelly Reilly), a governess, to Holmes, who promptly upsets her — and a highly sensitive Holmes and an indignant Dr Watson go head-to-head as Holmes appears to be sabotaging his friend's romance. But Watson is not the only one to have female company as Holmes' former lover Irene Adler (Rachel McAdams: Wedding Crashers; The Notebook) — the only adversary who has ever outwitted Sherlock Holmes — reappears to ask him to help her track down Luke Reordan (Oran Gurel).

But how do Irene and Reordan connect with Lord Blackwood, and has he really risen from the dead? In some of the funniest, cleverest and most exciting scenes on film, Sherlock Holmes is compulsive viewing, taking both drama and hilarity to a new high with a magnificent, original, tongue-in-cheek Sherlock Holmes where non-stop action is played out to a great soundtrack.

Sherlock Holmes also features: James Fox as Sir Thomas Rotherham; Hans Matheson as Lord Coward; the marvellous Geraldine James as Mrs Hudson; Robert Hailley as Dredger; William Houston as Constable Clark; William Hope as Ambassador Standish; Clive Russell as Captain Tanner; Oran Gurel as Reordan; and Bronagh Gallagher as the Palm Reader Flora.

Director of Photography is Philippe Rousselot, AJC/ASC; The Screenplay is by Michael Robert Johnson, Anthony Peckham and Simon Kinberg; Screen Story by Lionel Wigram and Michael Robert Johnson; Produced by Joel Silver, Lionel Wigram, Susan Downey and Dan Lin; Music by Hans Zimmer; Costume Designer is Jenny Beavan; Visual Effects Supervisor is Chas Jarrett and the film is Directed by Guy Ritchie (Snatch; RocknRolla).

With thrilling action, sensational special effects and memorable performances from a commendable cast, Sherlock Holmes is THE ultimate action adventure — a must-own film you'll want to add to your collection.
