The Iron Mask: Mystery of the Dragon Seal “Beginning with the legend of the Great
Dragon, who chose a people in China
to protect and fell foul of the evil Black
Wizards, a highly funny and compelling
period adventure owing little to real
historical events unfolds in the movie
The Iron Mask: Mystery of the Dragon
  Seal
...”

IN CHINA, HUNDREDS OF YEARS AGO, the Great Dragon chose a race of people to protect and gave them the gift of a healing tea that eased the minds and bodies of those who suffered.

However, some were greedy; and by the 18th Century the Black Wizards, led by the two-faced witch (Ma Li), took over the kingdom and the dragon fell into a deep sleep.

The White Wizards fought back but lost. The two-faced witch took over the land, imprisoning those who went against her on opposite sides of the world, and began searching for the missing dragon seal, believing that with it she could take over the entire world.

A great story with
a highly talented cast,
The Iron Mask: Mystery
of the Dragon Seal
is a very funny comedy
adventure...
a swashbuckling raft of
laughter to lift your
spirits as high as the
dragon soars…
slapstick with beautifully
choreographed
fights...”
In the Tower of London, England, three men are chained together. One, a Chinaman (Jackie Chan: Rush Hour), never allows anything to pass his lips, claiming he is nourished by the sun that rises in the East. Another is Peter the First of Russia (Yuriy Kolokolnikov), who has been forced into an iron mask and replaced in Moscow by an impostor.

In Russia, gifted English cartographer Jonathan Green (Jason Flemyng: Layer Cake) becomes aware that the man claiming to be Peter is not the real Tsar and is determined to free him.

Jonathan is in love with a young woman (Ana Churina), whose father, Lord Dudley (Charles Dance: Game of Thrones), disapproves of him. When Jonathan leaves to bring his pioneering mapping abilities to the world, he understands that his journey may be filled with dark and dangerous experiences, but has no idea exactly what he will face or the part he will play in rescuing the dragon and the dragon's chosen people.

While in Russia, Jonathan acquires two new friends — a cute little flying monster and a young Chinese boy he has rescued who, unbeknown to him, is actually a girl, Cheng Lan (Xingtong Yao).

Jonathan contacts his fiancée telling her that Peter the First is held in the Tower and she goes there to see James Hook (Arnold Schwarzenegger: Total Recall), a collector of historical artefacts who runs the prison, to aid the Tsar's escape.

Meanwhile, Jonathan and his new friends have reached China, where the people are being treated harshly, beaten, heavily taxed and threatened by strange and powerful weapons.

It seems as though the dragon has forsaken his people for the two-faced witch and Cheng Lan's love has betrayed her. Jonathan is fooled by the witch, believing she is the true princess, but will he see through her before it is too late to right a terrible wrong?

With his fiancée having tricked her way on board a Russian ship and the Black Wizards employing seemingly unstoppable measures to keep control of the people, Jonathan is prepared to risk his life to free the dragon and help Cheng Lan return home.

A great story with a highly talented cast including the late (great) Rutger Hauer (Blade Runner) as The Ambassador, The Iron Mask: Mystery of the Dragon Seal is a very funny fantasy comedy adventure. A sequel to the 2014 cinema hit loosely based on the Nikolai Gogol story Viy, the film featured Rutger Hauer in sadly one of his last films before his death aged 75 on 19 July 2019.

A swashbuckling raft of laughter to lift your spirits as high as the dragon soars. And to those who criticise the film? This is slapstick with beautifully choreographed fights, especially between Jackie Chan and Arnold Swarzenegger. It's what Jackie Chan does best and Arnie proves he's more than just a great action man. Superb!

Filmed in Russia, the Czech Republic and China, The Iron Mask: Mystery of the Dragon Seal also features: Li Yu as The Treasurer; Christopher Fairbank as Grey; Martin Klebba as The Captain; and Alexey A Petrukhin as Khoma.

Music is by Aleksandra Maghakyan and Zhang Yunshan; Cinematography by Ivan Gudkov and Man-Ching Ng; Produced by Peikang La, Jackie Chan, Yingchun Fang, Gleb Fetisov, Sergei Bespalov, Aleksey Petrukhin, Sergey Selyanov and Maofei Zhou; Executive Producers include Arnold Schwarzenegger; Screenplay is by Oleg Stepchenko, Dmitriy Paltsey and Aleksey Petrukhin; Directed by Oleg Stepchenko.

From the producers of Warcraft: The Beginning comes the Russian-Chinese high-concept fantasy epic comedy set in the 18th Century, The Iron Mask: Mystery of the Dragon Seal with action legends Jackie Chan and Arnold Schwarzenegger and presented by Signature Entertainment on Digital HD from 10 April 2020.
