Missing Series 2... ELEVEN YEARS AFTER A BRITISH GIRL disappeared, leaving behind no clues,
a young woman staggers into Eckhausen claiming to be Alice Webster (Abigail
Hardingham: Nina Forever), who originally went missing from the small
German town.
It is now 2014 and although Alice's reappearance is greeted with mixed emotions,
it is clear that she has been through a gruelling ordeal. However, when Missing
Persons Detective Julien Baptiste (Tchéky Karyo: The Patriot) becomes
involved with trying to track down her abductor, he hopes that there may be
a link to another young girl, Sophie Giroux, who has also gone missing.
Secrets
and lies
abound in
The Missing Series 2;
an exciting, emotive,
outstandingly well-paced
series that has all the
intrigue and powerful
appeal necessary
to create a first class
thriller...
As
Alice's parents Gemma (Keeley Hawes: Line Of Duty) and Sam Webster (David
Morrissey: The Walking Dead) try to come to terms with the unthinkable
events that have traumatised their daughter and upset their young son Matthew
(Jake Davies), Julien begins to doubt that the girl is indeed Alice.
Julien is fighting an incurable brain tumour and his health is deteriorating,
but he doggedly keeps going.
His investigations take him back to Paris, where he talks to Sophie's parents;
to the dark backstreets of Eckhausen with its conflicting German and British
communities, accompanied by German Policeman Jorn Lenhart (Florian Bartholomäi);
to Iraq to trace soldier Daniel Reed (Daniel Ezra), who may have gone into hiding
there and where Julien becomes aware that he is being followed.
Butcher Kristian Hertz is under suspicion and Daniel's father Harry, who has
since died, was believed to be having an affair with Kristian's wife, ex-army
officer Nadia (Lia Williams). Julien must find out who attacked Nadia and discover
what really happened in Iraq in 1991 and, using his unorthodox methods, how
a woman's suicide, a retired General suffering from dementia, Army Press Relations
Officer Adam Gattrick (Derek Riddell), and an insensitive Brigadier, Adrian
Stone (Roger Allam), who threatens the girl, are connected to the case.
Told simultaneously over two timeframes, the series follows Alice's parents
as they struggle to find peace and keep their family together while Julien,
despite his failing health, leaves not a stone unturned in his quest for the
truth behind both abductions and the man behind them. Then, just when you think
you've got it, the plot takes you down another avenue…

A fantastic series. With its gripping puzzle of twists and turns, The Missing
Series 2 explores the emotional complexity of the events surrounding a missing
child's return and the investigation into the second child who has vanished.
What does Stone know about the abduction that he doesn't want to come out? Is
there something bigger than the apparent conspiracy would have Julien believe?
At the moment there seem to be no more secrets, there is one more…
