He
will transport any package for any-
one for a price and he will get it there
whatever it takes. Jason Statham is cool;
Jason Statham is Frank Martin. And
Frank Martin is The Transporter...
BLASTING BACK ON THE SMALL SCREEN, the latest in the Transporter series,
Transporter 3, is determined to be noticed not least of
all because of some creative and amazingly-effective special effects that go
one step beyond. Get ready for the ride of your life!
Frank Martin (Jason Statham need we say more?), a former Special Forces
mercenary, has relocated his business to Paris where he will continue to deliver
packages without asking questions. The difference is that this time someone
else is calling the shots and Frank finds himself up to all sorts of tricks
as he attepts to deliver his latest consignment which is not what it
appears to be.
Never a man to do things by halves, Frank's peaceful evening is shattered as
a wounded fellow 'transporter' crashes back into his life with a young Ukrainian
woman in tow the sexy and enigmatic Valentina (Natalya Rudakova), who
will prove to be a whole truck load of trouble.
And Valentina is to become more of a liability as Frank tries unsuccessfully
to offload her when he is forced to take on a job he has already turned down
to deliver a package to an unknown destination for merciless mystery
man Johnson (Robert Knepper: Prison Break, Hitman), who is an ex-Delta
Force criminal mastermind.
Frank burns his own rule-book as, with booby-trapped cuffs locked to both his
and Valentina's wrists rendering them unable to venture more than twenty
metres from the car without being blown to pieces he finds himself racing
against the clock to complete his mission. But just who is Valentina? And how,
or where, does she fit into the plot?
From the Riviera to the Baltic Sea via Stuttgart and Budapest and on through
to Odessa, Frank does über-impressive things with his car and with his
body that you wouldn't believe possible as he blazes a trail through Transporter
3. OTT and proud of it! Fabulous scenery whizzes past as he piles on the
pressure, little knowing that to fail could mean global devastation.
What is the mystery package that Frank needs to deliver? And will he meet his
match with his latest enemy? Refusing to pull his punches and armed with his
spectacular gift for martial arts, Frank is the central figure in Transporter
3 where the explosions are bigger, the stunts are dynamic and the cars are
scorchingly faster than ever before.
Aided by his reluctant side-kick, the French Inspector Tarconi (the wonderful
Francois Berleand: Tell No-One), Frank Martin is ice-cool and dangerous.
Also starring is the ever-watchable Jebben Krabbe who plays the Ukrainian minister
whose signature might spell disaster for the future of our planet.
The outstanding fight sequences are choreographed by Cory Yuen, who worked on
films with Jet Li and Jackie Chan before moving West to choreograph Lethal
Weapon 4, X-Men and Transporter 1 and 2. A perfect
example of Yuen's amazing fight choreography is shown to effect during the 'strip'
fight [Frank uniquely uses his clothes as weapons!] which allows Jason Statham
to parade his rippling muscles.
Jason put himself through a strict diet and exercise routine in the months before
filming. "In the last year, Jason's worked hard to sculpt an exceptional body
shape," says director Olivier Megaton. "The loss of weight shows in his face
and heightens his charisma. We tried to make the most of his athletic physique.
"The big step forward in this third instalment is the genuine danger that hangs
over Frank," Olivier observes. "For the first time in his career, Frank faces
a fearsome adversary who truly raises the bar. He also falls in love for the
first time, which results in putting himself in even more danger."
When he was unattached, Frank was a cool machine. In love, he's much more vulnerable.
He allows himself to express emotion and above all refuses to leave Valentina
at the side of the road to save his own skin. The stakes are raised, which adds
a new dimension to the character, and in this triangular face-off we are truly
locked into the codes of a great action movie.
Produced and co-written by the award-winning French film director Luc Besson
(Leon, The Fifth Element, La Femme Nikita), this exciting third instalment
in the mega-successful Transporter action franchise includes some of
the most explosive, fast-paced and over-the-top action car chases and martial
arts fight scenes in years. Don't blink.
Transporter 3 features an Original Score by Alexandre Azaria; Written
by Luc Besson and Robert Mark Kamen; Based on characters Created by Luc Besson
& Robert Mark Kamen; Director of Photography is Giovanni Fiore Coltellacci;
and the film is Produced by Luc Besson and Steven Chasman. Directed by Olivier
Megaton.
